Robert Tessier Workout

Vince Gironda said about Robert Tessier "He's been training at my gym for more years than I care to remember. With his head shaved (The Longest Yard), he looks big and bad...and he is! Heck, he can curl 225 pounds over the preacher stand with a wide grip!"

Robert Tessier was born on the 2nd June 1934 and died of cancer on 11th October 1990, but Robert had an interesting life. He started as an Army paratrooper fighting in the Korean War and saw some serious combat, winning the Purple Heart plus a Silver star for what he did in the Korean War.

When Robert finally left the Army Service, he landed up joining the circus as a stuntman, specializing in motorcycle stunts. It took Robert a long time to get noticed because it wasn't until he reached 33 that he finally got his big break into making movies, it really was never a planned movie career for him.

His prolific movie career started in 1967 when a friend of his heard that some movie company were looking for stunt riders for a "biker" movie they were making. This friend then persuaded a very reluctant Robert to go to the casting call, where Robert was instantly hired because of his obvious ability to handle a motorcycle.

His movie career then started performing as both a stunt rider and an actor in Tom Laughlin's movie called Born Losers. Over the years Robert slowly became well-known for playing the heavy, menacing characters in films and television series and a few TV movies.

Roberts sheer size and his threatening-looking appearance, together with his shaven head, he went on to play villainous roles in over 50 different TV movies and films. Later in his life he formed his own stunt troupe which he called Stunts Unlimited, directed by Hal Needham.

When Robert was riding a stunt motorcycle for the circus he started training at Vince's gym. But it was only years later that he started taking his gym seriously when he realized it could and would affect the villainous roles he was selected for. When he did approach Vince about changing the shape of his body Vince put him on his classic 5 X 5 training. It worked well and within his first year of training Vince's 5 X 5, 6 X 6 then 8 X 8 system Robert had gained an extra 30lbs of lean muscle.
